Currently the classes are separated at 1.5 m. With the Microtransat rules limiting boats to 2m, this length choice appears rather random. There are many interesting alternative options:
Microsailboats: All boats that may also participate in the microtransat
no classes: so far no team has chosen their boat size based on competition value, this is typically define by rather different limiting factors, like other application goals, travel cost, and storage space
MaxiMOOP
Nano sailboats: Only limitation is that the boat has to fit into hand luggage of $airplane company (maybe we can get a company to sponsor ;) ) seriously though: For flexible operations, or swarms of robots, storage and transport space is a significant factor, so boats designed on space restrictions of some sort may be a very interesting challenge!
