Is there a way to add an Opisometer or some type of distance calculator to the map so we can judge the distance between road features? Something that is dynamic with the map zoom. View picture. #1346

Jotham's Screenshot with markup.

FullSizeRender

It's possible to make something approximating that graphic. There's nothing like that built into the Esri library so I'd have to make it from scratch, but it's doable. A first version of it might not smoothly animate between scales as you zoom, but refresh after you settle on a new extent.

JOSH SAYS NO

PeterBurkhard commented 4 years ago

Why not?

jhudsonWA commented 4 years ago

I'm not against it per se, but it adds complexity to a map that still has stability work to do for 4.5. And we would have to come up with something custom as ESRI does not support it out of the box and we would need to make sure it's accurate enough to rely on.

I'd still say no at this point and we can revisit for a future release once the map work stabilizes. However, @sheppamwsdot and team are in the process of cleaning up the task list so they have a clear picture of what they are currently working on, so for now, I'd say keep closed and when you discuss a future release with his team you can see if it makes more sense at that time.
