Ownership Request #204

Open Time6628 opened 9 years ago

May I please have ownership of this pack? I would like to remove the bugs and fix it. There are so many bugs that need to be fixed. Why do I want ownership of the pack? I run the #1 naturalMagic server and would like it to stop crashing because of this un-updated pack. It's really annoying xD. Thanks, -Time

dude, if it's that important to fix that stuff, do it yourself without ownership and notify your server's fanbase about the changes/upload the config files... Geeks is most likely still working on the pack, tbh I wouldn't doubt that he's building up new content and biding his time for certain mods to be updated to fix certain bugs... Your request of ownership sounds more like bashing him for things beyond his control...

The problem is if I wanted to add a mod to the modpack, I would have to have every person download the mod(s). Which can get troublesome. I have many plans for this pack. Some of them include adding more exploration, less crashes, and more magic. I also plan on re-implementing a quest system into the pack to give people somewhere to go. I would have different sections for all the different magic mods(Thaumcraft, ars, etc.) I'm not bashing geeks in any way, I just want the pack fixed.

Well then go ahead and do so. It's for your server, so install whatever you want. Geeks shouldn't have to give you ownership just because you want the launcher to do everything for you >_>;; troublesome or not, the players on your server will just have to deal with the changes themselves. My friends and I are currently playing a modified FTB pack with a bunch of extra mods and changes and we took care of it just fine. If some people are too lazy to just add in more mods and whatnot to match the server, then they forfeit the experience. If you want to make it easier for them, assuming you have some sort of website for your server, just compile the mods into a jar for them to download and install. I don't think there's any harm with that. If the changes you're talking about are bigger than what I'm assuming, maybe you'll be better off compiling your own modpack.

It's easier to change a pack than to have every add mods to their pack. All people would ask is: "How do I install it?" "How do I run it?" "WHY DIS NO WORK?" I'm not asking for ownership just because I want to fix my server, I want to fix it because there are so many issues with it that need attention. I mean, just look at the github issue list... some of them are from October. This pack has potential, and I would like to push it to it's fullest potential.

The problem is, when you say "I run the #1 naturalMagic server and would like it to stop crashing because of this un-updated pack. It's really annoying" as your argument for why you should have ownership, it sounds insulting. You're basically telling Geeks that he should take a hike and give the reigns over to you. As for the people asking stuff like that, it's called having an installation guide, if you do an exact step by step with each folder identified such as the root folder for Diablo 2 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo II" (purely example, obviously the launchers can be placed anywhere along with their data, and every OS is different on pathing. Just make sure that they verify the root folder for their mods folder within the launcher and then find it in the system as one of the steps...). Anyone who has issues after you provide a proper installation guide should be handled accordingly as needed, however I'm more in agreement with MimsyMan, just compile your own modpack, once it's compiled you can go through the process of getting a launcher to support your pack and then you can just host your server off of that, tbh it's not hard to configure mods to be similar if not exactly like natural magic, it's removal of certain features from within mods that would be the only concern.

This modpack is abandoned. He doesn't update it anymore. Why don't I compile my own modpack? There is no need to make a modpack if there is already another modpack with the mods you want. One of the main reasons I want ownership of this pack is to keep it updated and in the loop. When you start up a world or login to a server, all you get is spam with mod-updates. Since these mods are un-updated, they don't have to bug fixes for the crashes that happen all the time. This pack needs updating and a active manager. I understand geeks is a busy person and all, but if you create a modpack you should be willing to fix it at least. :disappointed:

MimsyMan commented 9 years ago

Update frequency depends solely on two things: owner choice and mod updates. If Geeks is strapped for time, he'd be less inclined to update as frequently, unless a substantial amount of mods were updated. If he's working on the pack alone, increase that timespan. If you're that unhappy just waiting, then just make your own pack like we've stated. It's not hard. ATLauncher even makes it easier by listing all the mods it's got (or something like that, my friend tried it a while back.) And it's not like you don't already have the files for the most part. Sure, modpacks die. But did Geeks ever officially state that it was dead? (Idk, I don't keep up with Geeks' channel) if he hasn't, don't bother him about it. If he has, still don't. Would you go tell the FTB team to give you ownership of FTB Ultimate because you wanted to update it yourself? Or the Technic crew with the old Tekkit/Technic?

All I need is a yes or no. I'm sure many people would like to see this pack updated and have less bugs. I know Geeks may be strapped for time and all, but why not have someone else do it for you?

ArcticHowler commented 9 years ago

"This modpack is abandoned." He has never stated that he is abandoning this modpack, do not claim such things without something to back it up. As MimsyMan stated, modpacks are updated based on time and mod updates, as I stated he's most likely waiting on certain mods to get updated to 1.8, in fact if you check the changelog it states that he is going to transition to 1.8 for the modpack when everything is ready

Time6628 commented 9 years ago

Many mods are not going to 1.8 or not any time soon. I know for sure that Tinkers' has to recode most of their mod. This is between Geeks and I, so please stay out of it. All I want is a yes or no.

Mickimoo commented 8 years ago

Bump, you can't even many of the mods because this packs latest update was made when mods were rolling out to 1.7.10. If you quit being so pig headed and just look at providing a pack that many enjoy AND WILL still enjoy, you win we win. Time might want to take ownership, but I just want to maintain it until that date of releasing 1.8 for the pack.
