Installation woes. Is this due to 12.x bugs? #6843

Describe the question Built a new box to replace the slow VPS encoder, also to run an ad server.

AVideo installation went smoothly, and is running. AVideo encoder installation just locks up, never creates database tables, doesn't have a log that I can find.

I don't know if this is related (because AVideo is obviously happy with the mysql install), but sudo mysql doesn't work on this install without the -p option.

Just tested here and the installation works fine;

I'm seeing an error looking for /var/www/html/AVideo-Encoder/videos/configuration.php

this directory is empty

seems to me you did not use git clone to get your AVideo files.

Cannot serve directory /var/www/html/AVideo/node_modules/: No matching DirectoryIndex

please make sure you use git clone

Also, that's in /var/www/html/AVideo

I got the AVideo install working

It's the AVideo-Encoder that is not.

And try to install the encoder again... and it just hangs & does not create a database.

Looks like its definitely logging an error because of no configuration.php

Looks like you do not have permission to write on /var/www/html/AVideo-Encoder/videos

try to run the chmod -R 777 /var/www/html/AVideo-Encoder/videos

drop the encoder database and try again

Daniel I tried this, and it didn't change anything. It looks like I already did that to clear the "Your videos director is not writable" error on the install page. There was no encoder database to drop because it's not creating one. The errors that it's throwing are thrown in /var/www/html/AVideo-Encoder/view/index.php on line 18 That code is:

require_once $config;

error log says:

/var/www/html/AVideo-Encoder/view/../videos/configuration.php

when I cd into /var/www/html/AVideo-Encoder/videos and look - there are no files - no configuration.php - believe this is the error?

I've installed it twice, first time I pushed an SSH key to the server during install, and the install blew apart because root didn't have a password. I managed to finagle it & AVideo installed, but, AVideo-Encoder was blowing up.

This is the second try, and I started with no SSH key and root account having a password. I can get AVideo to install…

How badly am I going to blow this install if I copy the configuration.php from my other encoder?

Yeah copying the configuration.php was (obviously) not the right way to go.

I can't figure why it can't get to the DB Daniel, AVideo is happy with it. Check your e-mail.

Oh, one "bug" I can report. On the install page for the encoder - the instructions it gives for creating the videos directory don't have sudo in them for the chown/chmod so you can't copy/pasta .. might save someone four seconds down the road.

but that is what was missing the permission

Maybe the way I had the DNS setup? Closing, we blew away that messed up install…
