Over inflated views (security issue?)

Hi,

My videos are getting dramatically over inflated views. Every-time someone uploads something those uploads gets hammered with fake views. The ip of the user doing it changes approx. every 1 min so i cannot stop them my end, and the ips are genuine not blacklisted. One user 5000+ views in less than a day lol. It goes on and on and never seems to stop, this never used to happen. Any insight on this guys? What if we only allow one view per ip every so often? Surely this cannot be allowed to go on persistently with no fix? Also look at the overall view time, LOL. Thanks

This is more of a security issue with guest views. Do you not have any security that detects for bots? If you are able to get views from bots like that than something tells me they can also easily ddos you . You need to filter out automated requests and posts.

Yes I have working bot protection and working ddos protection. I do get lots of indexing bots in the logs that are constantly there. Nothing seems to stop it. Quite funny actually why something would add so many views to all your videos helping the channels out lol. Thanks.

Maybe it might be the opposite thing happening then. Is there Images trying to be pulled from ffmpeg and not loading successfully? Would cause a repeat retry over and over bug to any guest or user upon embed video or maybe mp4 direct upload.

No my logs are constantly filled with "POST /objects/videoAddViewCount.json.php?PHPSESSID=c29fkcu4b0f3gprbp2q46udde6 HTTP/1.1" 200 1451 and on and on it goes with the session id and ip constantly changing and new view added each time. Only affects new vids mostly. Thanks

It still seems to be happening though, it doesn't matter how much security is there i get hammered with sessions starting and adding views to videos even when the site if offline i see still my logs being flooded. This view spam can give one video 4+000 views in less than 24 hours lol

It does this, it scans the site for channels then starts hammering the vids with views:

Hi no, only the encoder is loaded in an iframe in the setting under advanced.

I mean, do you embed your videos on other sites? I am asking this because of the cross-domain iframe session issue

not personally no. certainly the ones being scanned and views added too, as they are new uploads mostly, within minutes they are getting 100s of views all showing from multiple ips lasting no time or seconds and logging an inflated view time. Videos that have been up hours show months of view time like in the image above. I cant even hide it its so obvious :(

Can you please check your logs again for some clue?

I’ve been looking at them for days lol I have sore eyes. It’s not a bot it has no user agent unless it’s been cloaked.

surely if this process can be launched on my site there is a vulnerability somewhere? the views are approx 2per second sometimes when I check their view info within minutes of them being uploaded. It doesn't seem to like music videos too much though. I can see it scanning channels then it seems to launch loads of fakes views i can see the live activity in my server logs using tail -f. Nothing stops the process and its ip constantly changes. These videos are not embedded that it adds views too, those show up in my server log as embedded views. It goes on 24/7. It happens even when the site is offline. Just looking at a vid thats been up 51mins and has 101 views lol. Just not possible on my site. All bad users-agents are blocked and that works. A firewall wont work with never ending changing ips. Additional security measures don't work and bot detection does nothing against it. The site has working ddos protection and also has it at the ISP end.

It happens when the site is in registered mode only it is still able to add view count to the vids constantly

I think you are not updating correctly, the log is still there.

Hi it did update correctly as another git pull shows up to date. I deleted the log properly too the second time as a new one displayed. Thanks

how come you still have the AVideoLog::DEBUG: addSecondsWatching: UPDATE videos... on the log? it was removed.

maybe your server cached the old PHP files

I cleared my cache already several times and restarted apache. Also if I remove the videoaddviewcount.jsn.php for testing how is that page is successfully hit by this script running on my site in the logs. All those constant hits never show in unknown users in the web socket as whilst I’m being hammered my user count doesn’t change is this an injection?

It is an exploit mate. My site is empty, just an empty dir and this script is still running in my server logs still adding views on things even though they are none existent. their is htpassword protecting the dir, so it is not possible for someone to be doing this manually as there is nothing there to add views too and they cant get past the htpassword so see the site anyway. I had a feeling it was an exploit based on the things ive done already.
