Shorts in AVideo #8201

First off, massive kudos for updating AVideo to include this format. Shorts is a different animal though, they're transactional, meaning they have a shelf life, sell by date. Suggestions for future development regarding Shorts:

Identify Shorts by format in addition to duration of video and flag in database as a Short video. Update to Shorts plugin should include duration and how long to live on Front Page. Front Page: Show Shorts only in Shorts, Shorts should not show up any place else on Front Page. Channels: Tab for Shorts, ie. Home, Videos, Shorts, Audio, Articles etc. proper display of Shorts. Categories: Like Channels, there should be Tabs ie, Videos, Shorts, Audio, Articles etc.

By identifying Shorts in database based on specific parameters and flagged as such, AVideo GUI logic is based on video type as logic to identify video as a Short has already been established.

Again, many thanks for all the hard work put forth in updating AVideo.

Definitely has a lot of room to evolve. The trending order algorithm doesn't do well on my site - it surfaces a lot of old content. Shorts want to be fresh, especially on the home page.

Although dan got it working and made a big improvement to what it was initially. The only issue i have is that it only works for the first page of trending then anything after the first page is all old stuff years old and it never ever changes. The first page works as expected and im guessing yours is similar? Maybe if dan turned off the other pages so it could only display the first page that works, then that could be a solution. Shorts operates in the same weird way showing only really old random stuff, and some i could do with not been there all the time LOL

@DanielnetoDotCom - certainly grateful for updates to AVideo Shorts, but Trending and Shorts are or should be mutually exclusive. As mentioned in this enhancement request; Shorts should be separate from all other videos, and displayed accordingly;

1) Front Page - Only show Shorts in Shorts Carousel, and nowhere else (update Shorts plugin to determine how long to live on Front Page). 2) Shorts should have its own tab on Channels and Categories, again not showing up anywhere else but in the Shorts tab.

I do understand the necessity of fundamental structure change, both in database and GUI but hopefully you'll consider that direction with regards to Shorts.

Again, many thanks for consideration and work you put forth.

The only concern I have is if shorts should be displayed only in shorts. if you do that, for example, you will not be able to add shorts in playlists mixed with other content.

Yea I’ve seen that but do not want 30 day old trending it worked aweful on my site I much prefer 1 day old which is how my old site was and it causes less confusion with the users. 30 day old means trending never changed for 30 days. I tried that at the start till users started complaining and some thinking it was broke.

No Dan you must have miss understood. Trending is working fine but only on main page, or on page 1 of trending only. Anything after page 1 has never worked on trending its just really old stuff that never changes. Only page 1 works how it should do. But shouldn't trending only be kinda 1 page anyway? What i was saying is if tending only had 1 page then it would look fine. As for the other pages on trending they don't make sense. You can also have a look at my trending for an example of what i mean https://ourtube.co.uk/?showOnly=TrendingOrder shorts is kinda the same it pulls up old random shorts that never change.

I have always used the 1 day trending and it works for me. Most Admins on here like the longer 30day plus. I kept 1 day only cos it matched my old sites trending.

Playlists shouldn't include Shorts. Think of Shorts as opening an ice cold beer after a hard day's labor. You're not going to put the beer back in the refrigerator to include with dinner later on. You consume it and be done with it. Shorts always lives on your Channel, Category as a reminder of the great taste 😉
