code block background and line numbers not showing up #245

for some reason, my code blocks do not look like those in the sample file, specifically, they do not have the shaded background or line numbers. In the sample, it looks like this:

in mine it looks like:

any ideas?

I worked out that I needed to pass the --listings parameter to pandoc, which is well documented.
