Hello, a question about building control groups #191

Closed Erenussocrates closed 7 years ago

Erenussocrates commented 8 years ago

Hello, it's also bugging my friends who play wargus as well. You know you can assign units and buildings to control groups by control + number. But for some reason, the buildings don't get selected when you press the number, you have to select alt + number in order to select the buildings, and pressing the number only makes you select the most recently trained units from the said building. Do you know what I must do / which file I must edit to swap this control and make it so that building is chosen with just pressing the number, and recently trained units chosen with alt + number?

Those old "How-to-install" files are mostly made for linux due to all the compiling and insall parameters. There is install info for windows too but really, someone should be making a video on how to do it, so I'll do that as soon as I can to help everyone. If we can host the video on the websites for all the wargus and stratagus games that would be great!

I'll get on it.

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

Ill also make a video on how to compile both wargus and stratagus using cmake and visual studio 2015

pasildan commented 7 years ago

perfect ! thanks again Dinky

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

No probs

mimooh commented 7 years ago

As I understand for some reason you want to compile wargus/stratagus youselves instead of using the up-to-date builds available here: http://wargus.github.io/

Unless I am wrong that each github commit trigers the building of binaries, timfel?

Unless github allows for hosting the videos, there's always youtube and then we can place the link on http://wargus.github.io/

Yes, every commit is compiled and uploaded, but external contributors cannot use that mechanism to test their builds, and for development waiting for the travis build to complete all the time is also not ideal, so up to date build instructions would be great!

Will work on this guys. Can't do it tonight...Well, I can't COMPLETE it tonight as family is over so I need to be social :P

I did record a video but my mic didn't get picked up so I need to sort that out. I am new at using bandicam but I am figuring it out as I go. Never done this sort of thing but I WILL do it! :)

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

OK guys I have put up the first part of my instructional videos on how to install both wargus and stratagus on your PC!

Video here -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnY13i105LE&feature=youtu.be

Can we host it on wargus.github.io?

I'll make another on how to compile on windows using CMake and Visual Studio 2015 soon. Also please let me know if I've done a good job. I will change it if not. Just let me know.

mimooh commented 7 years ago

Can we host it on wargus.github.io? In the video you are instructing the end user (rather than a developer) of how to install the game. There's no need anymore to install stratagus.exe separately, as you are instructing, as it is part of wargus package - stratagus gets autoinstalled.

What may be possibly difficult in the installation could be "how to point to original warcraft2 data". Other things are pretty standard I would say - click 'next' a couple of times and wargus is installed. Any videos targeted at developers would be very much desired.

I don't mean to discourage your efforts. If you still think such a video would be helpful I can provide the link on wargus.github.io. Or you need it hosted on github instead of just linked?

Just link the video mate. If hosting would make it more noticable that would be good but it's your choice.

Not discouraged but I have a question about your suggestion of pointing to original data... Do yoi mean in terms of the extraction parameters or for when you start up stratagus?

Also I will be doing a full developers video soon on how to compile the game too.

This is my first instructional video so I can only build and improve on it right? :)

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

So what other things should I include?

pasildan commented 7 years ago

what's up Dinky, I think it's great any contribution you are doing , even this introduction video to install Wargus. Actually can't wait for your tutorial. I didn't except any video tutorial but something more explained/detailed (can be a text file too) than file /Install.html or /HOW_TO_RELEASE.txt ^^

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

Thats the intention minmooh. To make it as easy as possible for anyone to make changes to the code on their machine and then discuss it here.

Erenussocrates commented 7 years ago

Guys, let's say I want to issue the "stop" command to an enemy unit through a spell. Is there any tags for that, or a way to accomplish that? (but I don't want the enemy to be rooted, I want the stop spell to apply just for a split second, just like the normal button command) @Mistranger this question is especially for you since you seem to be knowledgeable about spells.

Erenussocrates commented 7 years ago

Okay, anyone have an idea?

Mistranger commented 7 years ago

@Erenussocrates well, the simplest way is to create a new spell action type (like "capture, "spawn-missile") and do all logic in it. More complex (and more generic) way is to use "lua-callback" action type and make a Lua function that will do this using OrderUnit function. I have "lua-callback" usage in Doom Wars, so you could study there.

pasildan commented 7 years ago

are there any news about video tutorial dinky ?

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

Working on it now mate. Should be up later on 👍

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

I've tried a few times to record this and its not picking my mic up. I am using icecream screen recorder and it's not picking up my voice. I'll try Bandicam later. Im pretty exausted right now tbh. I will do it though.

pasildan commented 7 years ago

great :)

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

Got a few days off so I will get onto recording this tutorial tomorrow guys 👍

pasildan commented 7 years ago

Any news about tutorial pal? 👍

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

Still working o it. Trying to get my mic working properly with bandicam, but rest assured I will get it done. I got the full version of bandicam now so I shouldn't hace any issues now.

Have faith friend! :)

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

Time for an update on the tutorial I am trying to do for you guys.

First of all, Bandicam is giving me the royal doo doo's. I set the frame capture rate, and when I place the video in the editor, the frame rate is half to a third, of what it should be, and, as a result, the audio is faster than the video.

I cannot use ShadowPlay with my NVidia card as it is not a 600-series card, which is the minimum for it to work. I intend on replacing my 560ti with a 1060 soon though, so that will help with any tutorials in the future.

I will most likely keep trying anyway, but does anyone have any tips for a good screen capture/recorder program? I have tried both ICECREAM and BANDICAM, and neither are doin' it for me atm.

pasildan commented 7 years ago

oh, a simple way you can do it is through a stream. Like I do when streaming Wargus. You could simply do a transmission about this tutorial, so then we can see the broadcast. Have you ever heard of Twitch.tv streams? You could use OpenBroadcaster which ia pretty simple program to do a stream from this video. That's my first solution if you aren't going to modify any part of the broadcast. The second one is downloading "Fraps". This is a pretty simple program I used many years ago which allows to record a video with audio. Third solution, I have heard about a common software called as Sony Vegas, which helps to modify/record videos... but never used it previously. I hope it helps.

timfel commented 7 years ago

Camtasia is a good screen recorder, if on windows.

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

Thanks Tim, I'll check out Fraps...I did use it years ago but didn't buy the full version. Twitch.tv yes heard of that, but you guys are on the other side of the world so what time is a good time to stream something for you?

Don't you need big boobs to be on twitch? Haha.

Ill keep you all updated.

pasildan commented 7 years ago

Nah, just do a simple stratagus installation in your twitch stream, just save it and we can see broadcast later on. If you are still interested on live transmission, would be great in 23:00 CEST for me.

pasildan commented 7 years ago

Thanks again. I'm doing wargus transmissions regulary if you are ever interested, playing at the hardest difficulties (hell/nightmare). Regulary at 16:00 CEST, next transmission is friday 16:00 cest. Will be waiting your tutorial.

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

So I used Camtasia to record it and Adobe Premiere to edit it, even though Camtasia has an editor built in, I cannot afford 259AUD to purchase the full version! haha.

Anyway, I have just finished uploading it to youtube. Let me know what I need to add and all that stuff. https://youtu.be/Fhw1zBjRdvE

pasildan commented 7 years ago

Wow this is great, thank you so much Dinky I appreciate your time and help so much will take a look on it

DinkyDyeAussie commented 7 years ago

You're welcome mate. Took so long to do omg... I used bandicam first, but instead of recording at 30fps it would only record at 17 or so...

Camtasia is a great program to record with and I used it to record at 30fps and was easily able to do a 30fps recording with it.

Will be using Camtasia for my desktop recording from now on and bandicam for game footage.

Wish my voice was deeper though. Everytime I hear myself on videos wherr I talk I sound like a teenager.

pasildan commented 7 years ago

Meh, just details. This is an excellent material for beginners like me, hoping some day to complete my entire Pasildan's Challenge for Wargus. I have been streaming for a while Wargus in nightmare/hell difficulty. Some of the missions are pretty well designed but others require some stuff to work around. Some of them are simply impossible to beat in hell difficulty. Would love to share it some day. You are welcome to join my stream if you wants anytime for more Wargus. http://twitch.tv/pasildan Standart time is 16:00 CEST.

Thank you very much again dinky for your tutorial.

Mistranger commented 7 years ago

@pasildan, amazing. Back in the days when I've implemented those difficulty settings, I don't even cared about testing because there were no testers at all (so there is nothing "well designed", yeah). All that I can say is that Normal is how it supposed to be in original WC2 (I used Wardraft to look at the original AI scripts). So it's good that someone is actually playing this after all.

Erenussocrates commented 7 years ago

@Mistranger , ofcourse we are playing it. And I've been developing my own modifications for it too. That's why I was asking for help, but I feel like the help you are providing is half-hearted and limited at best.

pasildan commented 7 years ago

@Mistranger Hey pal ! Are you the creator of these difficulties? I have enjoyed it a lot more than original warcraft 2 difficulty. You can't imagine how happy I was when discovered this project. I appreciate so much your hardest difficulties, they are such a real challenge. I can give a tester for you if you wants.

I really have loved your challenges into almost any mission from 4 campaigns thus far.

You and and everyone who is interested can join my stream to see all four war2 campaigns in the hardest difficulties... Just let me know if there are insterested at joining my transmissions. I have no problem starting all over again to show how works nightmare / hell. I have been many hours streaming along with @Erenussocrates . Some of those missions are literally impossible to beat haha. Standart time: 16:00 cest http://twitch.tv/pasildan

Andrettin commented 7 years ago

If some scenarios are unbeatable, that's probably because starting units are being used by the AI to attack, instead of being used for defensive purposes only (as should be done).

Andrettin commented 7 years ago

@Erenussocrates I think it's quite understandable if Mistranger doesn't want to put a lot of effort in explaining things, he was very upfront that he's no longer going to dedicate significant time to Stratagus.

Erenussocrates commented 7 years ago

@Andrettin , yes I know, but then there are users like us left, without little to no support or documentation about this engine (except DinkyDyeAussie and timfel, I felt like they really helped a bunch, thanks to them), if the case is like that, then there's no wonder there would be frustrated users, or not enough incentive to keep users in.

Erenussocrates commented 7 years ago

and @pasildan , don't you worry man. I'm gonna fix all of those impossible missions as best as I can while you stream them along. The plan is, I am nerfing any mission that seems to be really impossible even on Hard difficulty setting. But ofcourse unfortunately there are still some problems stemming from the engine itself, like the Human BtDP mission 10 freezes, and some issues related to my own mod.
