Okay, I can't reproduce this bug. When I order a wide spectrum sensor vehicle to collect an artifact, it collects the artifact.
Please upload a savegame with a wide spectrum sensor targeting an artifact. A screenshot would also be nice.

I use Windows 7 with a fresh install of WZ 2.3 beta4 the bug shows up also with standard sensor turrets. I saw the bug when using cheats... and reproducted it the same way. just to make things clear: the vehicle collects the artifact and orders the bombardment. if the vehicle reachs the artifact while the bombardment is going... better for it to be a tracked dragon! (however I prefer hovers :-) )

Your savegame can't be loaded in 2.3 beta 5.
Can you make a savegame compatible with 2.3 beta 5 (or, better, latest trunk)?

i made the savegame with beta5 i see that today is available beta6.... tell me if you need a new savegame. it is difficult for me to work with trunk version... i'm not playing from a linux machine.
may you want to reproduce this bug by yourself the steps are these: start new skirmish - urban chasm map (simplest) - advanced bases - with scavengers cheats on: whale fin - research all build at least one archangel missile post build factory modules design new unit: wide spectrum turret dragon hover (from here referred as "vehicle") build just one vehicle start bombarding around until you get an artifact (the scavenger base is perfect) go far away with the vehicle place the mouse cursor on the artifact until it becomes a crane clamp (is it called so in english?) left click every archangel post should start firing missiles to the artifact spot and the veichle directs to the artifact to collect it.

still the same problem
to reproduce just left-click on the artifact. you will get a battage of artillery on the spot of the artifact.

When targetting using sensors, use action target of droids doing DACTION_OBSERVE.
Previous behaviour was to use order target, independently of whether the droid was doing DORDER_OBSERVE.
Artillery no longer shoots at oil barrels being picked up by sensor tanks.
Fixes #1281.

| by enrico@...when ordering a wide spectrum turret equipped vehicle to collect an artifact it orders an indirect fire battage on the artifact spot. if the vehicle is close enough to the artifact it will get splash damage. to an unaware player it can cost the loss of the unit.
I do not know if it is the same for other sensors turrets.
