frame drop with many units #2124

Since 2.3.4 (probably not earlier) the frame rate SOMETIMES drops for SOME players down to unplayable, estimated 2 - 5 FPS.

Always correlates with having hundreds of units and defences in the game, never in the early game. Sometimes recovers after many defences and units died.

I confirm that this wz defect influence on game-speed, that probable a main de-sync factor. I played with dudes, & everyone had different framerates, those who had high rate, game runs faster - its obvious. At the end of the game we checked game times & low rate had 1:00:20 middle rate 1:08:11, high rate 1:20:37 - something like that.

Guys, we know this is going on, there isn't much we can do to fix this for 2.x.

I suggest you move on to trunk, and report how it is working.

This happens where there is lots of text on the screen and fps tanks.

AFAIK, this only happens in multiplayer games, and never in single player or skirmish games.

This is the result of a long socket timeout period.

For the text, that issue is unrelated to this.

i am sorry to disappoint you, buginator, but i experienced it often in master multiplayer and in master skirmishes as well. So unless skirmish is working other than i think it does, socket timeouts are not the only issue there.

I have done countless games in skirmish, and never saw it. What kind of a system you got ?

Thanks for your report, unfortunately, this bug report was done on a version of the game that is very, very old, and lots of things have been fixed since then. Could not replicate on latest version of the game.

Closing report.

If someone does happen to have the same error on the latest version of the game (3.1.1 at the time of this writing), then please open a new ticket, and not use this one.
