pandoc seems to be alphabetizing citation groups now, but it keeps any pre/post citation text before/after whatever the first/last citation was in the origin order. example:
\citep[e.g.,][]{TaymazEA2007a, FieldingEA2013a, GanasEA2018a, GanasEA2021a, GoldbergEA2020a, TaymazEA2022a}
becomes, in xml:
(Fielding et al., 2013; Ganas et al., 2018, 2021; Goldberg et al., 2020; e.g., Taymaz et al., 2007; Taymaz et al., 2022)
