In-app push notifications for extreme weather notifications from official 3rd parties when such notifications are available, such as National Weather Service advisories in the United States #182
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I am in an area that has been issued a "tornado watch / flood warning / wind advisory" for today. We are being advised: 'A regional outbreak of severe thunderstorms, with damaging gusts of up to 75 miles per hour, hail as large as billiard balls or larger, and several tornadoes — including some that could be “intense”... All modes of severe weather will
be possible including large hail, damaging wind gusts, and tornadoes.'
The more I use the weatherxm app, the more I rely on it as my primary/sole source of weather info. It would be useful to be able to get these types of existing advisory notices from "official sources" (where available) in the app I'm focused on for weather info.
It would also be awesome to get similar types of notifications in advanced based on hyper localized forecasts using WeatherXM data.
These advisories give me a chance to reduce risk of damage to property and life. For instance, I took unusual steps to get my car under covered parking rather than its typical location, and have altered plans to the evening that would have required driving during the forecasted worst of it. And, I know to promptly arrange a property check at my house (that I won't be at during the storm) after the storm, to attempt to mitigate any possible damage from getting worse (for example, roof damage that could allow rain into the house)
Describe the solution you'd like
When push notifications are added to the apps, have an option to pick categories of push notifications to receive, and have a category for something like "official weather advisory notifications", and integrate in with such data sources. And, have another category for something like "weatherxm advisory notifications"
(I completely appreciate reasons to do neither, but I want to ask)
Describe alternatives you've considered
I use other apps and check the news regularly to monitor for extreme weather advisories.
