I think the initrd simply needs to blacklist drm/i915 & intel_agp. IIUC these have to do with the KMS, and not X.

I really cannot be bothered with Plymouth / startup KMS issues. Rather just have it completely black since Webconverger users should not see Webconerger users boot. But now I need to figure out how to black list modules in the initrd.

Tbh I'm keen to remove Plymouth entirely.

I think the Address already in use error can be fixed by not starting plymouth in /etc/rc2.d (or somewhere thereabouts), since it's already started in initrd.
