What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Mount the remote transmission bittorent folder as SMB share in Windows under
a drive letter
2. In Transmission Remote, go to the file list of a torrent
3. Try to "Open File"

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
MessageBox with title "Error" and message "Unable to execute '<path of file or folder here>'".

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Windows 7 64-bit, .NET 4.5, version of product is 3.2

Same problem for me. Got the error on 4.1 and 5.0.1.

I tried on Windows 8.1 through a network drive or UNC path. Still persists.

Any consideration would be appreciated, this is a major feature, but useless if
it's not working at all.

Have you set the paths?

* Tools>Application Options>Paths.
* Add entries for each mapped drive, per the given examples.

I had the exact same issue until I did the above.

I have the same error, but I have this problem on Ubuntu Linux 14.04

I have set the paths in Transmission:
/home/common/Public=/home/personal/Public

My set-up:
/home/personal/Public is on my desktop computer a symlink to /mnt/Host/Public
/mnt/Host is on my desktop computer a cifs mount on smb://Host/Public
smb://Host/Public is a samba share on my server with Transmission on the path
home/common/Public
