There is support for mcp230xx port expanders available in tasmota: https://github.com/arendst/Sonoff-Tasmota/blob/447ec6256eb6e277a350ea94a387e5c7755f5693/sonoff/xsns_29_mcp230xx.ino

PCF8574 provide same funtionality, albeit with much reduced complexity, as far as I can figure out. I have project plans with PCF857X in the pipeline, but I haven't yet ordered PCB, so think I could still migrate them to mcp series
