Hey, thank you for doing this investigation!
The Im
from ImHex comes from ImGui
, the library we use to draw the entire interface which stands for Immediate Mode Graphical User Interface
. So the way it's written in the logo should be correct as it's pronounced the same way as the beginning of the word Immediate
.
In phonetics, the correct pronunciation is /ˈɪmhɛks/
.
Looks okay as is. Closing but I'm happy to be able to confirm that.
Thanks! @WerWolv
To note: Japanese transcription of the word "immediate" would be "イミディエイト" and the first two kanas "イミ" (i-mi) correspond to the pronunciation of the part "imme"[ɪˈmi]. That's fine (again) even if the Japanese ruby "イム" (i-mu) doesn't exactly match that is because a vowel follows on "immediate" case.
It's just a confirmation and feel free to close this if this isn't a problem at all.
On version 1.34.0, ImHex adopted new "Kawaii logo" with a Japanese ruby "イムヘックス", which corresponds to the pronunciation of ImHex.
"イムヘックス" can effectively be splitted to: "イム" and "ヘックス" and it's hardly ambiguous how to pronounce "Hex" ("ヘックス" (hekkusu) represents that pronunciation you would imagine).
But how about "イム" (imu), representing a pronunciation just like "Vim minus V"?
If "Im" in "ImHex" should be pronounced like "I'm" and we have a clear position about ImHex's pronunciation, this "Kawaii logo" may need to fix the ruby from "イム" to "アイム" (aimu).
On the other hand, this isn't an issue if:
Of course, even cases above don't apply, we have an option to ignore it, considering this ruby as just a decorative element.
