alphaviki: (alternative names I thought of could be Tarantula, Spider or Black Widow)

I wanted to make a spider themed role for a while, as well as a ua role. This is what I came up with today and I hope it is alright. 😅

Spiderqueen [Unaligned Killing]
Limited Role
Basics
The Spiderqueen can choose to stay at one of their nets. During the night, they may choose to either choose a player to create a net at, enwebbing them, or investigate or kill the enwebbed player they are staying with.

Details
The Spiderqueen can only win with Solo teams or other unaligned players. The Spiderqueen cannot win when they are dead.
Starting with Night 1 the Spiderqueen may choose one player to create a net at, enwebbing them. Alternatively they may also choose to attack or investigate the enwebbed player they are staying with. This is an immediate ability. The attack happens at the end of night. The investigation is immediate. The Spiderqueen is affected by weak disguises, but neither by redirections nor obstructions.
During the day, starting with Day 1, the Spiderqueen may choose to stay the following night with an enwebbed player at one of their nets. Choosing a player to stay with is an immediate ability. The Spiderqueen may also choose not to stay with any player. Should the chosen player die before the following night, the Spiderqueen will stay at their own home. If the Spiderqueen is staying at one of their nets, all attacks targeting the Spiderqueen during the night will fail; however, if the player they are staying with is attacked, then they both are attacked. The Spiderqueen cannot stay with the same player two nights in a row.

alphaviki: It is at an interesting spot that it is too weak to carry a solo team, but it might be too strong for a ua. So I tried to balance it by letting it only win with solos or ua. This way they cannot just publicly claim, not weigh the game in neither the werewolves or towns favour. It is a killing role, but it can only kill every other night, when maximising killing, which might not be the smartest. It is interesting because I think choosing between the three night actions is fairly balanced. Investigating could be invaluable for finding the ua and solos you need to work with and to not get yourself killed by them. Enwebbing is important to have more people to stay at and to target for investigation and killing. Killing might be the worst option in my opinion, because you rid yourself of someone to stay at or to investigate, but could be crucial to get rid of dangerous roles.

One issue I still see with it is, that it might be too slow.

alphaviki: What it brings to the game:

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

shapechange: there are a few minor mechanical/phrasing points, but the general issue is that unaligned players should be able to win with any team

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

shapechange: i could see a version of this working well as a specific solo team role

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

shapechange: but it being only able to win with certain teams from the very start is, essentially, an alignment

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

shapechange: i think it could honestly work well as an underworld team secondary role

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

shapechange: though it would need some tweaking

my thoughts seems to be fairly different than yours: I'm not convinced the role itself has much potential as is (it's also a bit similiar to huck's <#1084205827101032578> #998 solo team which I think has some potential), but I'd actually be interested in having an UA role that can win with only solos and uas(*) * this has some mechanical complications but can be achieved I do not think this can work as a solo secondary at all - there are too many new actions and interactions involved

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

shapechange: yeah the more i think about it the more i don't think it suits a secondary. don't really remember sisters of fate but iirc i didn't like it at all

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

shapechange: i really dislike the idea of a ua that can only win with solos

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

mctsts: it would also need to be able to win on its own or with other UA roles

there are a few minor mechanical/phrasing points, but the general issue is that unaligned players should be able to win with any team hags dont do this (tbf hags are a seperate case but it does show that we stray from the usual sometimes)

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

venomousbirds: however, having this forced wincon at the start is quite negative

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

mctsts: and PD obviously cant win with PB

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

venomousbirds: there's no guarantee that a game even has unaligned players

CrowdfordBot commented 1 year ago

venomousbirds: this just kinda feels like a weird hooker with some added abilities

captainluffy: the wincon is interesting and i dont think its bad by itself

hags can win with any team by default: they're not limited in who they can win with as part of the role
