mctsts: I strongly disagree
mctsts: The category based disguises allow town to still use investigative abilities to some degree instead of completely blocking investigation entirely for one night and is a very important balance to an otherwise overly strong power
shapechange: I guess I sort of agree.
shapechange: At the same time, it is a little frustrating that a single-use power has what is honestly kind of a major downside.
mctsts: consider that it doesnt just mask wolves
shapechange: (Well, it's only a major downside if town are smart, I guess, so.)
mctsts: it also obstructs town investigations
shapechange: I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Yes, I have considered it does that, considering that is what it does.
shapechange: <@242983689921888256> number fix
mctsts: its only really a downside if a wolf is investigated
mctsts: particularly a wolf who claimed a different category
shapechange: yeah, which means a semi-decent town will just investigate a claim they suspect to be wolf. i honestly think this could actually encourage meta, in that it might incentivise investigating strong players with complex claims on the suspicion that they're wolves with a mismatched category, taking on a hard claim.
shapechange: It might not be the hugest problem ever, but considering the power is single-use, I'd expect it to be a little stronger.
shapechange: Or less exploitable is maybe what I mean.
mctsts: im not particularly convinced that would really happen
mctsts: and players that want to meta check strong suspected wolves can do so with or without the cry
mctsts: and players dont necessarily even know which howl is being used
mctsts: also something else, unrelated, to consider is that the category based disguise also allows wolf aligned or ua/solos to still get some info from their investigations
shapechange: only relevant for (Lone) Warlock and Reaper/Devil stuff, I think.
mctsts: and flute charmer and psychic wolf and tracking wolf and clairvoyant fox?
shapechange: idk, we don't have to change it right away, but i maintain that it could be an issue and that we should keep an eye out for how players exploit it
shapechange:
and flute charmer and psychic wolf and tracking wolf and clairvoyant fox?
oh yeah i forgot it doesnt have the striking cry downside lol
mctsts:
idk, we don't have to change it right away, but i maintain that it could be an issue and that we should keep an eye out for how players exploit it
sure, that makes sense
shapechange: anyway do you have any hag suggestions for <#1210706493943582791>
mctsts: no
shapechange: lame
shapechange: do better
mctsts:
idk, we don't have to change it right away, but i maintain that it could be an issue and that we should keep an eye out for how players exploit it
im interpreting that to mean we can close this for now?
shapechange: oui
shapechange: Right now, masking cry disguises roles with categories corresponding to their actual roles. This actually turns out to really suck from a wolfpack perspective, because weaker wolves (often the Miscs) are often the better choices for the riskier (Invest and Killing) claims - moreover, pack claims are often distributed based on skill level, and masking cry discourages that. It would probably be better just to remove this aspect.
