10 months ago The advanced setting "Video > Video artifacts workaround" must be disabled for NVidia RTX Virtual Super Resolution (VSR).
This workaround setting is enabled by default, because video hardware overlays (MPO) can introduce several bugs/artifacts on Chromium browsers (Chrome, Edge, Opera) for some users.
For more information search online for these bug reports:
- NVidia bug 3992875: Small checkerboard like pattern may randomly appear in Chromium based applications
- Chromium bug 1155285: Occasionally checkered artifacts when using drawImage directly in the video.requestVideoFrameCallback callback
- Chromium bug 1480717: White/black checkerboard artifacts appear on webpages with a video since Chrome 115
- The video is squeezed when:
- NVidia RTX VSR is enabled
- the video player is in theater mode
- the webpage is in fullscreen via the F11 key
- the video has black bars
- "Hide everything in theater mode" is enabled
- "Remove black bars" is enabled
- "Video artifacts workaround" is disabled

NVidia RTX video super resolution (RTX VSR) cannot be enabled when the ambient light is enabled

This is probably caused by the workaround that currently prevents squared artifacts bugs on Windows 10 & 11 in Chromium because of Multi Plane Overlays: Chromium bug 1480717 & Chromium bug 1155285
I will expose a setting to disable this workaround. But it would be better to automatically disable it if there is a way to detect NVidia's dynamic super resulting feature. And Microsoft and Google should fix the squared artifacts bug.
