Does the stability derivatives given by VLM give just the real portion of the root from the characteristic equation and not the imaginary component?

Weston-Pace commented 1 year ago

Do I need to know every single stability derivative and what it does, or should I only focus on the ones that have significant magnitude?

Weston-Pace commented 1 year ago

Should I change the tail volume ratio in different ways, such as moving the tail back farther and increasing the span of the tail, or will they all produce relatively similar effects.

How do I use the translate method for VLM without confusing Julia whether I'm calling the one for VLM or Plots?

Weston-Pace commented 1 year ago

It is good to change the tail volume ratio in different ways because each way uniquely affects how the derivatives change, as well. If I only change a single parameter, then I won't get a complete picture of how the stability derivatives are affected by the tail volume ratio. Not every stability derivative needs to be know because some of them hardly diverge away from zero. Furthermore, the stability derivatives given by VLM are just the real portion of the characteristic equations.
