This quest deals with the assassination of Kyras Varangar by the Sovereign, and the subsequent capture and execution of Arathe whilst she investigates the assassination It serves to heighten the conflict between the Kaldr and the Sovereign, and, most importantly, has the player promoted to replace Kyras and introduces him to Korvar, the real Kaldr leader.

When the player returns to Kyras after the previous quest, they will find him dead in his chambers. The player will need to report his death to Voreno, who will assign Arathe to investigate Kyras' death (she will later be killed by the Sovereign whilst investigating) and decide to introduce the player to Korvar to take his place, since the player knows the most about Kyras' work on Arkngzul. Voreno will take the player through the secret passageway in the Kaldr cave HQ and into the Kaldr Tower in Sovereign Hall, and then into Korvar's secret room. Once the player is introduced, Voreno will leave.

Korvar will introduce himself, and explain what he wants the Kaldr to achieve - taking over from the Sovereign and restoring the throne to its rightful occupant, Luharaan. After the introduction, he will say he wants to take direct control of the Dwemer investigation from Kyras, but that the player's involvement in the hunt for more information will be put on hold for now whilst more pressing matters are dealt with.

He will mention that there are two obstacles standing between him and a succesful coup - the Cynosure, and the Soltinn. The cynosure is, to the public, the religious organisation representing the triumvirate of gods, Sai, Magnus and Ebonarm, that is popular in Luftahraan. However, unbeknownst to most, the inner rankings of the Cynosure serve Boethiah, and Boethiah will want to keep Korvar and Karsten at each other's throats as she moves her pawns into play. The Soltinn could merely be annoying if they were to act out at a poor moment. Deeming the rebels the lesser threat, Korvar decides to deal with them first - they will be more easily mislead than the Cynosure.
