Updating Applications Within #28

This may be the wrong place to post such... but, howdo you go about updating the applications in WineLink?

WheezyE commented 2 years ago

That's a great question. I hadn't actually considered updates, but I'll add that to my list of updates.

Updating can be as easy as re-running the Winelink script, though doing so will erase all your settings and inbox/outbox. RMS Express updates itself when you run the program. VARA HF/FM/Chat don't update automatically though and require you to re-download and re-install them. So I think I'll make a script for the desktop that re-downloads and re-installs VARA HF/FM/Chat.

Thank you for asking and for the idea

FANTASTIC!! Your existing script to install everything is just amazing. Running these applications is so cool within a Raspberry Pi.

THANK YOU

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad it's helpful. I've just updated Winelink with a VARA (HF/FM/Chat) update script on the desktop. I'll probably add VARA SAT to the script at some point too

Lmk if things work out ok and then I'll close this ticket

Eric, all I can say is THANK YOU! I literally just spun up another RasPi4 when you sent this email. As far as I can tell the desktop script NAILS IT. Of course the latest versions were already installed, but I had no hiccups whatsoever. With what you have done here and I have to give an enormous amount of kudos to Jason/KM4ACK, the 2 of you have truly made the RasPi a HAM/Amateur Radio necessity.

Thanks again!!!

Thank you! I've drawn a lot of inspiration from KM4ACK and it's really kind of you to say so. Also thanks for testing the new script. Don't hesitate to let me know if you have any more ideas or find anything weird. I'll fix it if I can or at least add it to the roadmap in the readme for things to try to get figured out eventually.

Have a great week, Eric KI7POL
