The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) -- the national association of the nation’s engineering industry – respectfully requests an extension of the comment period of the proposed guidance on Improving Cybersecurity Protections in Federal Acquisitions (published on August 11, 2015) from September 10, 2015 to October 21, 2015.

The proposed guidance impacts engineering firms that provide services to the Federal government. ACEC is working with our member firms to understand the impact of the proposed guidance on their work. The impact is being researched by our firms, but as it is the busy construction season, it is difficult to get a full and accurate determination at this time. The extension will allow for those firms to understand how they can best assist the Federal government in their effort to strengthen cybersecurity.

ACEC looks forward to working closely with OMB on developing appropriate standards that truly identify the challenges that engineering firms face with their cybersecurity protection in Federal acquisitions. By allowing a reasonable period to enable the industry to better understanding the impacts of the change, and possible alternative approaches, we are better positioned to achieve this goal.

Thank you for your consideration of this request. We look forward to a prompt and positive response.

The IT Alliance for Public Sector (ITAPS) is in agreement with ACEC and respectfully requests an extension of the comment period of the proposed guidance on Improving Cybersecurity Protections in Federal Acquisitions (published on August 11, 2015) from September 10, 2015 to October 21, 2015. ITAPS, a division of the Information Technology Industry Council (ITI), is an alliance of leading technology companies building and integrating the latest innovative technologies for the public sector market.

The proposed guidance impacts technology companies that provide products and services to the federal government. ITAPS is working with our members to understand the impact of the proposed guidance. The extension will allow for our members to understand how these rules will impact the products and services they provide to the federal government. ITAPS looks forward to working with OMB on strengthening the federal government cybersecurity posture as it relates to acquisition planning and contract administration.

Thank you for your consideration of this request. We look forward to a prompt and positive response.
