Describe the bug After upgrade the Installed from the Microsoft store Fedora remix to the recent 34.5.6 /etc/fedora-release still contains Generic release 33 (Generic) and then, dnf doesn't find the recent package versions.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Install Fedora remix from MS store
  2. Download update msi with an update to the recent version designated as Fedora 34
  3. Print distro release information: cat /etc/fedora-release Generic release 33 (Generic) ????????
  4. Then DNF can't install package dev versions released only for Fedora 34, mainly, from RedHat. Expected behavior cat /etc/fedora-release shows Fedora 34

Screenshots If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Additional context WSL2 Desired packages: Podman dev releases and their dependencies. It looks like a packaging issue because everything released for 33&34 is installable and works OK. But dnf searches and finds the packages with prefix f33 :( . Basic Troubleshooting Checklist

[ ] I have searched Google for the error message. [ ] I have checked official WSL troubleshooting documentation: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/troubleshooting#confirm-wsl-is-enabled. [ ] I have searched the official Microsoft WSL issues page: https://github.com/Microsoft/WSL/issues. [ ] I have searched the WLinux issues page: https://github.com/WhitewaterFoundry/WLinux/issues. [ ] I have reset WLinux: Settings->Apps->Apps & features->WLinux->Advanced Options->Reset. [ ] I have disabled and re-enabled WSL in Windows Features. [ ] I have run Windows 10 updates and restarted.

Hello @PavelSosin-320,

Let's review the steps to reproduce:

  1. Install Fedora remix from MS store: After this step the content of /etc/fedora-release is Generic release 33 (Generic) or Generic release 34 (Generic)?
  2. Download update msi with an update to the recent version designated as Fedora 34: What did you do here step by step?

Regards, Carlos

I did a fresh install of 39 (from github) and I am getting

 cat /etc/fedora-release
Generic release 39 (Generic)
