git will not install on Pengwin Enterprise Linux #58

Describe the bug I purchased Pengwin Enterprise Linux from the Microsoft store.

I can update by doing: #yum update -y

but I cannot install git

I am on the latest version/build of Windows 10 Pro

I need to get git on this installation, if not, I please need a refund. You are charging ~$100 for this OS.

To Reproduce

  1. open a terminal (WSL - Pengwin Enterprise
  2. type: #yum install git -y

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Have you tried to yum update first and then yum install git?

The repositories on scientific Linux appear to be down or you have problems with internet connection, we will check that soon.

@devlocalca I just made a test installing Pengwin Enterprise from scratch then I ran:

yum update -y
yum install git -y

And it worked! So please be specific about your environment so we can help you.

I am on Windows 10 Pro, I just tried again, and it's not working for me.

I paid ~$100 for this, I did some research and was notified that Scientific Linux is going out of business, they are folding. Will you please offer a replacement for your Enterprise offering (RHEL based), using another distro besides Scientific Linux? This needs to be done since Scientific Linux is going away, and this is effectively the end of the road for the current Enterprise offering.

Hello,

You mentioned your "paid price" twice, If you would like a refund, please forward your Microsoft Store confirmation e-mail to contact@whitewaterfoundry.com with your PayPal address and we will get that taken care of.

Scientific Linux will be supported until 2024. We are discussing which will be the replacement. As you may understand, it is an enterprise distribution, so our focus is on stability and security. We won't rush into making a decision.

Windows 10 Pro is not enough for us to know your Windows version, please Run 'systeminfo | findstr /C:"OS"' in Command Prompt and give us the result.

What happens if:

  1. You open ftp://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/7.6/x86_64/os/repodata/repomd.xml in your browser?
  2. Just execute curl ftp://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/7.6/x86_64/os/repodata/repomd.xml in Pengwin Enterprise?
