Experimental Mac support #5

This code has been working really well for me on my daily driver Mac (Intel, Big Sur) for several days, so I'm making it official and opening a PR.

It's probably worth considering this "experimental" until some other users try it out. I'll also make some time to set up some VMs with older MacOS releases and make sure it passes a smoke test there. I may be able to test this on an M1 Mac soon, as well.

I got a MacOS Catalina VM up and running, and everything seems to be working fine there.

Tested with sosumi and seems to all work fine for me too apart fro ma slight problem with the requirements, which is unrelated to macos and will happen on all OS's :+1:
