WinMerge is an Open Source differencing and merging tool for Windows. WinMerge can compare both folders and files, presenting differences in a visual text format that is easy to understand and handle.
Windows 10 Pro, Left side is a local drive, right side is a network share on another Windows PC.
Compare two big folders (maybe 500 GB) that should be identical.
Unchecked View->Show Identical Items. Disabled tree view.
Marked all files that differed, hit Delete->Right side. All good.
Then went copy->left to right on all to update the right side.
Then, with all these files still marked, I went "Refresh selected".
Now I ended up with one file that's still different (other PC has RAM issues or something, hence bits get kaputted),
So I wanted to repeat the process and hit Delete->right Side, but now I no longer could. Deleting fails with the Windows error "The action can't be completed because the file is open in WinMerge".
So far we have not been able to reproduce this problem.
This is probably due to some kind of error, such as a memory error or disk error, but it is difficult to reproduce.
Not sure its reproducible but here's what I did:
Windows 10 Pro, Left side is a local drive, right side is a network share on another Windows PC.
