Sounds like a broken wine setup ($5 says it's a message about dpkg --add-architecture i386). What happens when you run 'wine'?
Could you please upload a log with winetricks -v?
Yes, it was that the laptop and the chroot on the desktop both didn't have multiarch enabled. I don't know what happened, because I thought I previously used that chroot on the desktop to test winetricks. The message I get when I run wine on the laptop (the desktop gives a similar message):
it looks like multiarch needs to be enabled. as root, please
execute "dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt-get update &&
apt-get install wine32"
Usage: wine PROGRAM [ARGUMENTS...] Run the specified program
wine --help Display this help and exit
wine --version Output version information and exit
Here is the log of winetricks -v
from the laptop: https://paste.debian.net/312968/.
I guess this can be closed, though it might be good if winetricks itself gives a clearer message.
When packaging the latest commit of winetricks for Debian (ca38ead), I encountered an issue. I get the following output when running
winetricks apps list
. Notice all the instances of the message about the file under /tmp and the --add-architecture: not found messages.I know the message at the top says I'm using a 64-bit WINEPREFIX and to test with a clean 32-bit one, but I tested it on my desktop using a 32-bit prefix and experienced the same issue. It was just easier to copy the message from my laptop.
