In the 2024 competition, URC has decided to raise the budget cap for the rover, allowing us to upgrade various hardware components.
One of the issues with the existing LiDAR sensor on the rover is that it only supports scanning in the X and Z axis. This means that the rover is incapable of distinguishing between a slight bump on the surface, a rock, or a wall. With the new budget cap, we aim to upgrade the LiDAR sensor to one that supports Y axis scanning as well.
