Some packages of mine that may come in handy:

matplotlib2tikz: Convert matplotlib figures into native, easily editable LaTeX code. (matlab2tikz works the same way)
betterbib: Improve your BibTeX bibliography with online data
blacktex: Correct some common LaTeX antipatterns.

Thanks for sharing! I did investigate your *2tikz packages at some point in the past, I think I decided against that route for some complex figures I had (the resulting code and compilation times were a bit too much). I'm planning on updating this when I have a moment, I'll be sure to add a reference!
