About the UX: A dedicated brightness slider would help to better control it with a mouse. Right now this can be only done within the color picker, but that is hard to archive precisely. So a dedicated brightness picker as a slider would be nice.
Regardless if a slider will be added or not it would be niche if the text flied for the entire hexadecimal color would react to a key up and down press and change the brightness for it.
About the feature itself: So I would not couple the brightness with the animation or something else but I would like to see a feature so that a color can be excluded from a chosen animation or external control. So that the color of a key stays constant and can't be changed, the same way like the secondary color for the lock keys is handled. I personally don't see a use case there only the brightness should remain static but not the color itself.
When using "no fx" having a brightness slider under the color picker to set per-key brightness, then when using an effect having a checkbox to enable that slider (or however the UI presents it), then setting the per-key brightness will disable the effect for that key and leave it static.
I want to use this as a way of setting the A1-3 keys to a static brightness so I can always tell what mode I'm on without having to press a key and see what color my keys are.
I made this video to help understand it better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgnOi9991Mk
