Migrate bundled theme changelogs from Codex to HelpHub #1442

Open sabernhardt opened 9 months ago

sabernhardt commented 9 months ago

What is the new page you are requesting?

Changelogs for themes from Twenty Twenty to Twenty Twenty-Four are on HelpHub. Previous themes' changelogs could belong there too:

How will this new page help you?

This would help eliminate the need to keep the Codex. See discussion on Slack and Meta Trac 4487.

Heads up @WordPress/docs-issues-coordinators, we have a new issue open. Time to use 'em labels.

sabernhardt commented 9 months ago

The content for each article can be found in this gist: https://gist.github.com/sabernhardt/510488ed36d3202a6a2a2dbd83aa8a97

I copied the Codex content, moved the id attributes from span tags to the heading, polished some of the code formatting, fixed a few typos, and converted to blocks. These still would need the table of contents block (if the headings have an underline even after creating the table of contents, those will need the is-toc-heading class).

When the nine pages are completed, please open a Core Trac ticket to update all the readme files (or mention it on Trac 59816).

Hi If I understand correctly, no new draft articles have been created yet? I can dedicate some time to this issue, but would like a status update.

sabernhardt commented 8 months ago

I do not have access to create or edit articles in HelpHub, but I gathered the content in the gist to paste into a Paragraph block.

carolinan commented 8 months ago

Thank you. I'll copy it into new draft articles in the Default theme category and ping someone to review them.

I'm reviewing this.

I see Twenty Ten Theme Changelog mentioned in Codex but in new, it is only Twenty Ten Changelog. Is this mistake or intentional? This is in all other themes too.

carolinan commented 8 months ago

The articles will be displayed in the Customization > Default themes category, like this: https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/twenty-twenty-three-changelog/ So there is a breadcrumb navigation at the top that says Default themes.

I think it would be good if each changelog also linked back to the theme page. But not all themes have a page like this https://wordpress.org/documentation/article/twenty-twenty-three/

I can also see that the Twenty Twenty-Four pages is missing the Customization category, compared to the others pages. I guess it would be safe to add it; I mean, the slug, the URL would remain the same.

carolinan commented 8 months ago

I meant, I don’t think we need to mention that it is a theme, because it is in the breadcrumbs.

kafleg commented 8 months ago

Rest of the content is fine. I think we can publish it.

After that, we need to redirect those codex pages, right?

carolinan commented 8 months ago

We need to:

sabernhardt commented 8 months ago

Notifying the Meta team could be as simple as adding a comment on Meta Trac 4487.

carolinan commented 8 months ago

(These theme pages need some work. Besides the missing pages (Twenty Ten)) There are some broken images (Twenty Sixteen) and missing alt texts.)
