Feedback - Quiz Page is not Accessible for Blind WordPress Users and Learners. #2363

Type of feedback

This quiz is not accessible for blind WordPress users and learners.

Description

It relies on images and icons, not on concepts, so I had to play it on probabilities. Then correcting myself reading which answer was right or wrong. Please consider improving the quiz. For example, being blind, I can't know what "six dots", "v icon", "icon shaped as a B", and so on. Please consider making courses more accessible. You've talked about accessibility explaining about alternative text and so on, and I noticed you always provide alt texts in screenshots. But please adopt accessibility even in quizzes.

Hello, I am the person who sent this feedback on WordPress Learn page. I am totally blind and have had difficulties to pass this quiz as questions rely on images, so, if you don't see the images, you have to answer by chance until you get the right one. At least the first time as then you can rely on right answer it gives you. in the results page; But it is not a "peer-treatment" as a sighted has more probabilities to pass rather than a blind learner. Most text-based lessons are quite accessible but please, consider making video and quiz contents more inclusive. Thanks.

Oh gosh, 0:00 UTC here is 02:00 in the night - quite incompatible with my timezone I think I'm going to give you more written feedbacks when I encounter issues, because I would really like the WordPress platform to be more and more accessible for blind bloggers - not only for the front-end part but also the backend and training part. Waiting for full-site-editing courses!

Hello, adding type bug and priority medium to this. Accessibility requests should never be treated as enhancements, people can't use our courses, that is a bug.

Content feedback might be a better label here but certainly not enhancement.

Thanks.

Thanks @alexstine for the correction, it was my first dev-squad triage, I already requested @jonathanbossenger to review everything I did. Also, we got a reply from weekly meeting. Here you can check the reply.

@devmuhib009 No problem, we all start somewhere. Just wanted to provide some guidance for the future. Hopefully this will get more eyes soon.

@talksina, thank you for raising this with the training team. It's very important to us that our content is kept up-to-date and accessible for anyone wanting to learn about WordPress.

For some historical context, and I would point out I did not create this course, but looking at the course creation date, and the timing of the WordPress Site Editor release, it would appear this course was created during a time when the Site Editor controls were not clearly defined or labeled correctly. Not that this is an excuse, but it could point to the reasons why the course creator used explanations instead of the actual labels for certain user interface elements. For example, "The icon with the SIX dots" instead of "the Options button".

However, this is no longer the case, and so I will be working to ensure that the quiz answers are updated to reflect the relevant element labels instead of the descriptive text.

I have just returned from some time off, so I will likely only get to this early next week, but I will be sure to review all the quizzes in that course and get them updated.

If you do find any other issues, please do let us know, either through the feedback form, or by logging a new issue here in GitHub.
