I can not locate the guide in Handbook. Yvette had updated the document previously. This could be added.

In slack channel, check on badge requests. Others have asked about requirements. Can not locate link in handbook.

To this message adding names for Marketing first badges requested: @robinwpdeveloper - contributed at the marketing table at WordCamp US, has done three meeting notes drafts, helped other member of the team on using the website

I can ask Yvette about this!

Two names came forward in December 2022. They were asked to add their usernames to the list. @eidolonnight will be adding them to the badge area of the site.

Highlighting this card to the 2023 team reps: @santanainniss @robinwpdeveloper @sereedmedia.

There are two marketing badges. Previously the second team badge was for extensive contributors over a long period and team reps (current and previous). There have been many discussions on this over years which I have been reading. In more recent periods, this has been used differently, though it has had various views on how it is used. I had a draft on badges which I was waiting for a couple of answers from other teams to post. I wanted to cross link to the previous google docs discussion too as it had some valuable information from the contributor pillars discussions. I will remind the other teams etc, and share the draft so the discussion can be re-had on the website and align better with what is happening on badges more recently across the project.

At the moment, the first marketing badge is the one that is allocated. Nicholas had updated one of the cards suggesting a monthly cycle of review by team reps and badges allocated for more than 10 hours of contribution on a project (as I understand it opposed to attending meetings).

Summary of the background and recommendations previously shared discussions on the Marketing Team Badge, which is the second of the two badges the team can allocate. This was shared in Slack to assist the 2023 team reps.

Background A further discussion on the 'Team Badge' was recommended by the team reps who passed on the baton in February 2022. A discussion was started later in 2022, and may be worth revisiting in 2023 on the need, future and application of this second badge the team can allocate to contributors.

The team rep badge had been introduced for team reps and previous teams reps.

The team rep group who completed their term in Feb 2022, which included myself, had widened this badge to include long term, prolific and regular contributors too. There was a minimum amount of time that was set (Yvette wrote the discussion doc - I can't find it at the moment via search).

From the discussions held and to the new 2022 reps, a review of both badges and especially the Marketing Team badge was suggested alongside or after the outcome of the contribution pillars discussions with Josepha. The following recommendations were made:

Spreadsheet We also highlighted that the spreadsheet recording system for badge allocations, google drive access, GitHub etc needed an update. The system used for docs was shared as a possible way forward. I don't know if access was updated to the spreadsheet we used in the google drive as I deleted myself from the group that had access once it was passed on to the new team reps. Note as this has email addresses in, the folder on the team's marketing drive was shared with just team reps for data handling purposes. Asana was trialled as a tool before GitHub and used as a way of trying to log when requests came in and access has been provided/ badges allocated. It was not found to be an easy way to do it when there were more than two team reps or when their was a regular changeover.

The 2023 team reps might want to start a spreadsheet going forward using the adapted version we copied from docs, or just simply add names to a GitHub card when adding badges. Note: for Git Hub, we don't use people's personal emails in tickets/ comments.

Highlighted this card to the 2023 reps above as part of their onboarding. Added them specifically to this card. Nicholas has added them all the admin for both team badges. https://make.wordpress.org/marketing/handbook/getting-involved/teamrep-handover/#admin-rights-to-the-marketing-contributor-badge-groups

The badge links can be found via the search of the Marketing site. The previous team reps to my term highlighted this and the importance of co-ordination and applying an equal approach. They had also made recommendations on badges, particularly a review of the team badge (the second badge) for clarity and ease of allocation. I note @abhansnuk has posted above about it.

Celebrating people gaining badges is a positive and also can be done as part of the getting to know the team section.

In 2022, we discussed how to regularly review badge requests. We did not get many requests. @eidolonnight added a few that were pending and for some of the newer contributors too. At intervals, I have asked about badges. It is easier to do this at the beginning or end of a month. My recommendation for 2023 team reps, is to consider having badges as a agenda item for the last meeting every month. It might avoid keeping a GitHub card each month just for badges. It would make it part of your weekly planning cycle cards. These planning cards were aimed at being more than just the meeting and to encourage async contributions and capture Slack updates in the week.

@sereedmedia @robinwpdeveloper @santanainniss you should now be all sorted on admin access to these groups. I would suggest a post about the team badge and include the discussions that have already taken place, as like many things, we build on the efforts of those who have given time, ideas and feedback already.
