WordPress releases
- The WordPress 6.4 development cycle and release team are now published. This major release is expected on November 7, 2023, and aims to drive participation and shared ownership by those who identify as gender-underrepresented in the project.
New in the Gutenberg plugin
- Gutenberg 16.0 shipped on June 14, 2023, and introduces significant enhancements. Page management is now available inside the Site Editor, allowing you to create new pages and view page details in the sidebar without leaving the interface. In addition, the Post Template block now includes block spacing and layout controls to conveniently control the space between posts within the Editor.
Team updates
- Continuing the plugin and theme categorization that began in late 2022, you can now use filtering in the Theme and Plugin directories to sort between community and commercial extensions and find the most suitable options for your WordPress website.

Events
- More than 2,500 people from 94 countries gathered in Athens, Greece, for WordCamp Europe from June 8-10, 2023. The event concluded with a keynote address by WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg, Executive Director Josepha Haden Chomphosy, and Gutenberg Lead Architect Matías Ventura, who highlighted the advancements and upcoming milestones of the WordPress project. The city of Turin, Italy, will host WordCamp Europe in 2024. The Call for Organizers is now open.
