Any update on WordPress Translation Day this month.
Feature brought forward on Artemy K preparation in parallel for September 30.
Once confirmed on which one will go ahead for September, spreadsheet to be updated.
Updated timeline to October or November 2023. To check date with potential tie in with WordCamp. To discuss further with @meherbala
Message sent to volunteers.
Contributors are being confirmed to work on this. @meherbala could you add them to this issue. Thank you. This will be for November 2023.
@majadidit thank you for also confirming you will be assisting on this feature.
@nalininsbs Apologies I missed adding my notes earlier.
I asked @webtechpooja if she would like to work on this and she had said yes.
Can we add @webtechpooja as the main person and @majadidit as the second person coordinating this article?
Thank you @abhansnuk for setting up the google document for Pooja and Maja.
I was supposed to talk to @webtechpooja about POWP at WCMumbai but could not as I was running around for work.
I will speak to her soon. Hence need to know if we know for which month is this POWP going to be release?
Thanks @abhansnuk and @nalininsbs for all your work.
Google doc draft is to be typed on the right hand column. Additional questions to update the interview are at the bottom of the document.
@meherbala can we find out if @webtechpooja has been able to contact Sunita? Is there a document other than the one above?
Assigning @bernard0omnisend to assist with this initially with pictures and editing depending on the status of the post. Has anyone asked for photos already? Thank you.
I spoke with @webtechpooja on Saturday during WC Udaipur and explained to her how POWP works. She will let me know once she reaches out to Sunita.
Do we have an estimated month when this feature will be released?
Pooja is attending WC Ahmedabad this Saturday, so she may be able to contact Sunita after WC only.
Has anyone asked for photos already? Thank you.
To be best of my knowledge I don't think anyone has asked her for photos.
Hello @meherbala . This was scheduled for November originally. We work on two features in parallel. This will now be for January. As the person is yet to be contacted or photos requested, would a slack message group help further this? Thank you for mentoring Pooja with this edition. Please encourage Pooja to post on GitHub card too. Thank you @meherbala and Pooja.
Today, I contacted Sunita for the initial discussion about the article. She has agreed to meet tomorrow, Dec 6, at 9:30 AM UTC. I know it is on short notice, but I want to have a quick call and discuss the changes with her. If anyone wants to join us on call, please feel free to contact me, and I'll share a meeting link with you. If we need more things to discuss with Sunita, We'll conduct another meeting later after WCAhmedabad (Dec 9).
Once I discuss things with her, I'll update them here, and we can start working on the article on the shared gGoogledoc by Abha. How does this sound to you?
@webtechpooja sounds great to me. I won't be able to join the call, but please keep us up to date. Also, as I mentioned I'd be able to handle with nearly anything copy-related, including writing or editing the drafts
Thank you @webtechpooja for the update and @bernard0omnisend for the reply too.
We have you down Pooja as the lead for this feature and that you will be doing the first draft with Maja supporting. Once we have the first draft, we can then review and confirm next steps to help get this ready.
Pooja, some areas to consider to help you tomorrow:
I may be able to join you tomorrow Pooja but have no voice currently, but can answer any queries on chat to help support you in this feature.
Thanks everyone.
- Do you have the list of image specifications from @meherbala ?
5-6 pictures would be needed for the articles. For the main featured image, the size of the image should be around 1980 by 627px (if the size is bigger no worries, it can scale it down).
Thank you @meherbala, for providing the image size, I'll ask her during the call, to provide us images. Thanks @abhansnuk, for providing details, I'll keep these points in mind while discussing things with her.
We had a nice chat with Sunita. Thanks to Abha and Meher, they joined me over the call, and we discussed what should be included in the article and what she wants to add/remove from there. We shared the Google Docs and Github issue link with her so she can also look at changes/discussion.
I asked her a few questions, that will help us rewrite the story. Once she will provide all the details, I'll update here as well,
I am attending WCAhmedabad on Dec 9; as I mentioned earlier, I'll be working on this after that and will update you as needed. Thanks
Pooja's draft is in the google document - link above.
Do we have photos please @webtechpooja and if we do, are they edited? Thank you Pooja and Meher.
Thank you Pooja and Meher for all the work on this so far. I have a couple of questions from the research material. I will go through the questions at the bottom tomorrow. Thank you Abha for adding some questions and items to assist Pooja. We are doing well for moving this forward and sharing Sunita's story.
Hi @abhansnuk, Thanks for your suggestions. I have modified the article accordingly. Could you please check again? Thanks
@nalininsbs Please let us know your questions, thanks
Do we have photos please @webtechpooja and if we do, are they edited? Thank you Pooja and Meher.
We have Sunita's photos but I have not edited them. I will edit them by Wednesday 20th Dec 2023, upload them to the CMS, and share the update here once uploaded.
Photos discussion summary:
Text and research:
Thanks everyone. Appreciate people have been away with the seasonal holidays. If you are reviewing the material and have not already added final queries / comments, please add them by end of Monday ideally. If there is anything else we need to wait for in terms of information gathering, can this be highlighted in the doc please. Thanks.
Thanks to Sunita too for info and answering queries. Looking forward to sharing this feature.
Meher to upload to CMS and add alt attributes
Done
Thank you, @abhansnuk, for the review and feedback. I have incorporated all the bottom answers into the feature somewhere where they suit best. Also, I have included a few comments where I need more clarification and feedback.
Summary of items and progress in the google doc:
Is there anything else to be checked @meherbala in WordPress screens before publishing? Publishing links to be added to social media list and Month in WordPress.
Thank you everyone.
Link in Slack today.
All comments and added interviews incorporated. No remaining questions. Preview.
What was decision on captions? Can everyone easily see the alternative text?
@meherbala can you add the highlight box that we started using for the first paragraph last edition please? Thank you. The other boxes seem to be correct.
@marybaum is shortening the sentences from the added interview info in the large section where there is no photograph. She will recheck the preview and word wrapping too before pressing publish. Thank you Mary.
Are we adding captions?
Could you remove my email address from those update? I assume there was a typo somewhere as I have been fairly constantly getting emails from this github repo. Thanks!

Looks like this is ready for final review. Adding the "Final review" label, and I should have some time tomorrow to go over this thoroughly. In my quick read-through tonight, I'm seeing the following:
I can offer fixes and more comprehensive feedback after a full review.
Thank you Nicholas. I think that paragraph has been updated already. The second example was marked up for needing revision. Nicholas this has moved today the CMS, so are you checking it there?
Update: the first bullet point had been changed in comments, and has now changed in the text itself. Second bullet point yes needs shortening.
If you are working in the google doc, can you mark up changes as Mary and Abha have already had a look at formatting in the CMS. If you are changing it in the CMS, can you add a link to the google doc once published. Thank you.
Hello @eidolonnight how are you getting on with this edition of People of WordPress? Thank you
@nalininsbs I found the Google doc to be quite confusing, so I'm editing in the CMS right now. Is there a deadline that I should be aware of?
@bjmcsherry based on the social calendar for the week, when would be the optimal time to publish?
@eidolonnight Based on the current scheduling, This Wednesday is open to slot in this campaign. Based on recent engagement performances, Sprout also suggests 6:00 PM UTC as an optimal time to push it live.
To help you the latest version that was in the CMS was pasted into the top right of the google document, where the text begins. The older versions are below. You can either edit there or in the CMS. The left hand column is the source materials starting with the HeroPress story.
This was originally the end of January / beginning of February People of WordPress edition. So this week would be preferable. In terms of time, if you have an analyser you are using for other items, then please do use that.
Thank you @eidolonnight . Could you check the featured image in the preview screen too before publishing.
@eidolonnight there was one US spelling query that was raised. I can not recall if it was resolved last week. Could you please check the spelling of 'laborer' - we found two different American spellings for this. Thank you.

I highly recommend post drafting in a separate "clean" Google doc that contains only the post copy. The current doc layout won't be particularly welcoming to new contributors, and it seems to trip up Grammarly being in a table. Perhaps this is worth a discussion here in GitHub or at the next marketing meeting? @bernard0omnisend previously mentioned difficulty jumping into this.
This was originally the end of January / beginning of February People of WordPress edition.
Just to better understand the process, these are self-directed timelines, yes? Are there any other projects or campaigns reliant on this post or others?
Could you check the featured image in the preview screen too before publishing.
Added the featured image and categories. 👍🏻
Could you please check the spelling of 'laborer' - we found two different American spellings for this.
The US spelling is "laborer" and appears to be correct in the draft. 👍🏻

Perfect. Let's do that. Thanks @bjmcsherry !
Thank you @eidolonnight .
Dates/ scheduling The deadlines are as in the spreadsheet Chloe gave you access too. With helping new contributors to the series and with the availability of some of those people featured/writers/reviewers, clashes with planned release announcements, these have moved. We have had some editions that have needed to move dates due to issues geographically.
When the feature is linked with another campaign, more flexibility than the end of a month would be a benefit. There have been times when this is, for example, linked to WordPress translation events, major WordCamps, Learn WordPress launch.
The team reps are normally given the spreadsheet and folder link in the handover from the previous team reps. I have not seen any message from them on the series or on GitHub tickets. One of the group working on the series can follow this up.
The current scheduling is the end of the month and we have found this is not always the most suitable date for publishing and can clash with a major announcement. With the new scheduling of content, from the previous discussions, it has been suggested the planned set dates would be better to act as a guide for when the item is ready. It could be scheduled based on the tools you are now using.
Social media Is there a viewable place where the social media for this series is now drafted? Would your team like a task to be readded to the checklist for drafting text for social media, or useful hashtags for local WordPress communities? This task used to be done in the google document. It was removed from a task there, when social media was moved to Sprout and updating by your team.
Marking up versioning
In terms of the document, I have gone through this to identify issues as part of the final process review/ update. This happens at the end of each edition too. As I am dictating this, there may be more text below, and I can add bullet points more easily once it has first saved.
This edition
Normally:
Process is to grey out older versions in the google document and a header added marking up which is the current version and which are older versions. This should have then updated the table of contents at the top of the page too.
There is now also a drop down link at the top to help people go direct to the relevant section in the document, including the written interview questions, and the draft. This could have some more descriptive text added, and the titles tweaked.
In terms of having a new final document, this has been advised to avoid previously and to keep items in one document as much as possible. This has also been the case for other marketing team documents. The current format is also one that enabled fact-checking by detailed reviewers to be more possible, Can you help me understand what grammarly is finding difficult? May be there is a way around this.
During the editing phase, editors reviewing and changing text greater than checking for typos ideally need to have been involved with the particular edition to have an understanding of the person featured and to avoid lots of edits that give completely different meanings. Marketing team members who commented on any typos seemed to be fine on adding comment on the document/ in Slack in the last few months. The main difficulty for the series process is that they do not always sign into the google doc in suggestions mode and also without signing-in it can be difficult to credit their contribution. The request to sign-in and use suggestion mode was re-requested in the marketing meeting two weeks ago. We respect the wishes of those who do not want their name listed and who have raised a particular question or suggestion.
Thank you for the information that Bernard was facing some issues, who we are delighted has joined the group on this series.
General tips/ help There was a wiki page set up for the series. We can add some of the items from this current edition to the tips too. I may need to ask Chris and others who have helped update it previously to assist with formatting for it.
Once we get the most urgent milestones for the next edition done, suggest we can update the wiki, ask the existing contributors if they have any other suggestions, and test the tips with some of those who have volunteered and planning to shadow on editions. This can be then shared with the wider marketing team too for any other suggestions. This helps make the engagement more meaningful and like last year capture useful tips and learnings from each edition as more people get involved.
I have added the amplification tag to schedule posts for this project. They will launch later today, shortly after the post goes live.
Thank you @bjmcsherry . We should add that tag into the process checklist. @bjmcsherry would you like us to leave this for you to add when you have confirmed scheduling?
Can you please remove me from this thread? Thank you very much in advance.

Hello it is a different Meher that is requesting to be removed. I will see if I can.
Can you please remove me from this thread? Thank you very much in advance.
Hello, we had removed the tag typo last week. It looks like the emails are from this old reference. There is no other tags with your ID I can see. It could be because you have commented on this ticket that it is sending you emails too. I will ask if there is anything else we can do to help you. Apologies you have been receiving these emails.

Thank you to Sunita Rai for sharing about her adventures in WordPress, and to Abha Thakor, Nalini Thakor, Pooja Derashri, Meher Bala, Nicholas Garofalo, Chloe Bringmann, Maja Loncar and Mary Baum for interviews, editorial, images, and reviews.
To do
Social media: Brett updating.
Translation action: to check with Sunita about translation plan.
Close permissions in document. Review with group.
Update spreadsheet with link and social media link.
Sunita has requested that she would like to translate this story herself. Thank you Sunita. Card to be labelled for this.
I leaving label on promotion until Month in WordPress. If this done, can label be deleted.
I think the amplification label can be removed from this ticket, unless anything else is pending. Thanks @bjmcsherry fie adding the social links on the card. This was really helpful. And thanks for dealing with the social too.
@meher @marybaum @nalininsbs @OlaIola The Month in WordPress I think picked this up - looking for the link so we can add it to this.
Is there still a polyglot newsletter @OlaIola where we need to include stories which involve polyglots, as we did before? I may have missed the notices on this newsletter.
