For the post Alert: WordPress Security Team Impersonation Scams I used the WordPress Logotype as the open-graph/feature image in order to avoid Jetpack picking the first image in the post as the default (a picture of email contact details in Gmail).
Using the Logotype worked but was a little sub-optimal as it didn't match the standard white on blue images used in most posts when there is a suitable lead time to work on the associated material.
I think it would be good to create some art work for general usage on news, make posts and elsewhere. My initial thoughts are for the following to be created:
generic all purpose image (default)
WordPress maintenance release
WordPress security release
WordPress maintenance and security release
WordPress release candidate/beta releases
There are probably others that could be created but these are the items I can think of the the core and security teams would make use of. I'm sure other teams would have something that could be helpful too.
