This seems to be two separate types of contributions.
Contributing content to Openverse: for someone interested in getting more works indexed in Openverse either via submitting their own work to the WP Photo Directory or by adding providers for existing CC work. Having this on a page in the website sounds fair.
Contributing development to Openverse: for someone interested in moving Openverse forward, the Make site and the GitHub repos would be relevant. Having this on a page in the Openverse frontend does not seem right to me. I suppose the 'Get Involved' link in the footer covers this use case.

I personally like the idea of treating code and non-code contributions as being equally important.

I'm curious why that is? My feeling is that this project is used by lots of folks conscious of FOSS who see the value of giving back (the WP and CC communities support this) and might not know where to find that info outside of Openverse's UI.
I suppose the 'Get Involved' link in the footer [sic, header] covers this use case.
It's possible that when Openverse moves out of an iframe, it won't have the WP.org header and could instead have a different 'back to wp.org' type of button in the header.
I would a third one.

Problem
We don't currently explain to users how to contribute to Openverse or to get their own content searchable in Openverse. We should do that to increase contributions and ease confusion for potential contributors.
