This only makes a significant argument for PHP7+.
@felixarntz I honestly would love to know how much performance and stuff any workarounds for PHP5.2-5.5 (everything that's EOL) take, also end of next year, PHP 5.6 (and 7.0 even a little earlier) also will be EOL meaning the only maintained PHP versions are 7.1 and higher
Newer PHP versions generally run faster than older versions.
For site-owners: improved loading times improve user engagement and conversions. For hosters: improved loading times means less resources used per server, or more hosted sites per server.
