G1000 lockups in the St Louis region #843

I had a previous experiences nearing the St Louis area and attributed it to my fooling around in the flight plan and procedures screens of the MFD too much. But then yesterday I encountered a lockup at about the same area when flying the same route again. These two flights were from KBMG Bloomington, Indiana, to KCPS, St Louis Downtown. Then today I made multiple attempts to fly on from KCPS to KIOW Iowa City, Iowa. I experienced lockups during multiple attempts to fly out of KCPS.

For the first occurrence I was up and enroute near the STL VOR when I entered the MFD flight plan page and it locked on me. The following instances were G1000 lockups all sitting on the ground at KCPS. I tried loading a saved plan. If I entered the MFD flight plan page the G1000 locked. I quit MSFS, rebooted, started the sim, and entered a flight plan by hand in the MSFS World Map page, step by step. I then went to fly and while sitting on the runway I entered the MFD flight plan page. It locked. I restarted several other times, each with the same result. I was using the Diamond DA62, but also tried with attempts in the G58 Baron and in the Cessna 172. Each time the G1000 locked. I restarted the sim without the G1000 mod and had no issue with locking.

Then I loaded the flight from KBMG to KCPS that I flew yesterday. Entered the flight plan page while on the runway at KBMG. No problems. In and out of the flight plan page multiple times. No problem. Then I decided to try a flight from KIOW to KCPS. Everything went fine until I neared the St Louis area, then I noticed the G1000 had again locked. I was not even accessing the flight plan or procedures page when it happened. Was just nearing St Louis.

I am using the G1000 mod v0.3.4. I am using the Navigraph beta if that makes any difference. Is there some cause for what appears to be such a region related issue?

I'm giving another attempt at trying to reproduce some of the lockups folks are seeing. Do you have a sample of a flight plan out of St Louis that locks up when you view it?

Hi Rob, Apologize for not getting back to you sooner. Been quite busy and its kept me away from flight sim activities for about 10 days. I will look back at the flights that were the basis of my post in regards the WT G1000 mod and the St Louis area. I will report that I have having the MFD lock up on me on most occasions, regardless where I am flying, when I go into its Flt Plan and/or Proc pages multiple times. Many times it occurs when I go into those pages to review the flight plan ahead, or to activate a flight plan or select a transition. In some cases I can finish the flight using the corresponding pages of the PFD, but it has a habit of locking up as well. Another note: I am using the Navigraph Beta for MSFS as the default MSFS nav database is horribly lacking for the mostly regional GA airports I routinely fly to. A good example is KUMP in Indianapolis. The MSFS default holds just one VOR approach. That airport actually has I believe 5 or 6 published approaches, including RNAV LPV approaches into each direction of the runway. Off the top of my head I might also call out KBKL, Burke Lakefront in Cleveland on that score.

I fly mostly GA twins, particularly the G58 Baron and the DA62. I fly a predefined fantasy flight schedule in real time and with real time weather to and from games of a couple of sports teams My flights average right at 2 hours. With my flight schedule and available time to fly to “tonight’s game”, I find myself flying instead in FSX SE where I continue to enjoy Reality XP avionics and updated and complete nav data. Just too many experiences of G1000 lockups late into those flights in MSFS. The only aircraft performance mod I use, and only occasionally, is the DA62X characteristics mod. The lockups occur regardless of whether the mod is in use or not. Lockups are as frequent with the Baron, and I have still had lockups when I fly the Cessna C72 G1000.

Oh, I am using the WT G1000 mod from I believe 12/23/2020.

Best regards, and a ton of thanks for your efforts with the G1000 and G3000.
