Product idea: Self-quarantine notifications to contacts, based on symptoms only #975

Why? Early and fast detection and isolation are they key to prevent further propagation.

The fastest way to detect and isolate is not waiting for diagnostic test to be done but isolating people with enough suspicious symptoms and also the people they had contact with.

How would it work?

  1. A person reports himself (through the app) to be sick and reports enough symptoms to be highly suspected to be infected with Covid-19

  2. The app tells "the reporter" to voluntarily isolate and (optionally) tells this person that notifications to the diagnostic test authorities will be sent, to help this person to get a Covid-19 diagnostic test as soon as possible

  3. The app sends notifications (through push, email and SMS) to the people which whom the reporter had contact with (through a contact tracing technology), telling them that "a person they could have contact with is suspected to be infected with Covid-19" so that it is recommended that they voluntarily self-isolate until further notice

  4. The app periodically (e.g. daily) ask the reporter if he/she has received Covid-19 test results and if so, what was the result?. If the reporter is found to be infected with Covid-19, another set of notifications is sent to the reporter's contacts updating them about the situation

  5. After some time (e.g. 20 days) if the reporter hasn't been diagnosed yet or his/her contacts haven't received any further updates, the app asks for their health state and those that do not report to have suspicious symptoms are advised to not aisolate anymore

This could leave a lot of people isolated but it's definitely better than a general quarantine, and also targets people that are allowed to go out (on special cases) on a general quarantine, which are the most vulnerable.

Also, all of the isolations are voluntary, so it would not require governments' permissions.
