I think this suggestion is meant for both the web and desktop clients. Karl, is there a good way to indicate that as such, or should we just duplicate the ticket into the other repository as well?

I think the right way to handle that is to have a duplicate ticket in the other repository that just links to this ticket. To the extent that the commentary remains applicable to both, it can all happen here; if they ever diverge, then the two tickets will at least cross-reference each other.

It appears @patudom did that, so I've now added the cross links in the first comment (the description) of both issues.
