When toggling layers on/off, have a setting to fade them in/out instead of instantaneous on/off. (request per Christina Moraitis)

This would probably be tricky to implement. Is there a specific effect that you'd like to achieve?Just a feeling that this would look nicer?

Just a nicer look (with live planetarium presentations in mind) - this is already implemented in the cloud layer on the earth / asteroids / orbits / etc so I thought that the framework might be partially there.

@astrodavid: Can you please give an example which layers you'd like to see this with? (That is, which layers would need to be modified)
