Error: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive #419

Since about 3-4 days ago, any attempt to run Slimcat now yields this error:

Oops! Can't connect to F-List! Error: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive

The error appears on the logging screen, before selecting your character. Updating .Net Framework or downloading a different slimCat version does not fix this.

UPDATE: Somehow, after attempting to connect multiple times, I managed to get into character select screen, and then log in. The issue still persists on subsequent attempts to run Slimcat.

You're not able to connect at all? What version of windows are you using? slimCat probably will not connect under XP.

I am using Windows 8.1. There were no such issues previously, they appeared last week for no apparent reason. Judging by this thread: https://www.f-list.net/thread.php?thread=78701 , it appears I am not the only one. What may or may not be related to the issue is that I am currently in Russian Federation, and using the localized version of Windows 8, though, again, it used to work perfectly fine just a week ago.
