heldplayer commented 9 years ago

How much time are you giving it to bake the cake?

keybounce commented 9 years ago

I can give it hours.

This world has been my testing world for realistic flowing fluids and streams. I've had it up overnight at one point.

I have not left the overworld yet at all.

This is also the testing world for my modpack in assembly, so I've got RfTools and CofhCore.

Oddly, I tried throwing Evoc (from Prof. Mobius) into the mix, and it crashed -- core mod conflicts are the new jar mod hell. (Since it fixes stalled furnaces, stalled hoppers, and lit spawners, I do want to get it to work.)

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

Same Here It never stops profiling? after every restart! and this was tested on 3 new worlds I start new world then i wait for profiling to stop and it DOES It really DOES Complete. Then i shutdown game then when i restart game and load up my new world It starts profiling again and again and again!!! every time i quit and come back and this was with 3 newly made worlds!!

version: 0.12.3.00

anyway to stop this from happening?

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

WoW been 7 day's+ and not even a response of any kind! nothing no acknowledgement about this! sad really guess rftools is the new goto for mystcraft! rest in peace mystcraft you was a good mod! for a long time!!!

keybounce commented 9 years ago

Sorry. I did not see your comment.

The best way I know of is to use the config files for ores. If you set the "use a config file" setting (I think it's in core.cfg), then default settings appropriate for vanilla will be saved into balance.cfg, and you can adjust it.

Xcw: Is there a reason that the cake profiler doesn't write out / save what it has determined is the "balance values" after completing the profiling? That way, even if it doesn't recognize the "cake baked" state, you could still set the "use a fixed config" setting later.

XCompWiz commented 9 years ago

I suppose it could do so. Wouldn't be useful if something changed things, though. I don't know why it would do the baselining again without pack changes. Does it rebuild the file again or does it extend the existing file?

Snake: [Tone is resigned] Is it OK if I can't find it in me to care? I make Mystcraft for the fun of it. Player retention doesn't mean anything to me. I release it for the people who enjoy it, and I'm constantly trying to improve it. Not having fun? By all means go play something else. I don't benefit from you paying Mystcraft in any way. In summary, passive-aggressive doesn't work on modders. Just be nice and respectful and I'm happy to help. :)

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

I'm sorry if i came off passive-aggressive! "Snake: [Tone is resigned] Is it OK if I can't find it in me to care?" NO it is not OK! If you did not care what others thank then you would not have been doing this for so long and don't think I Have no clue I was does LUA Modding long ago for WOW and other games too Like elder scrolls and correct me if I'm wrong but is this NOT your bug tracker hub? if so then i do expect some kind of response! it is sad that you only came here to defend your self instead of hay snake can you provide me with blank blank black! or, I know of this bug thanks for taking your time to post on my bug tracker??

XCompWiz commented 9 years ago

I asked a question, I just tried to include a life lesson at the same time. Oh well.

Repeat: does it add to the existing file or does it make a new one?

And I care that there are bugs. I don't care whether you use the mod or not. :)

XCompWiz commented 9 years ago

The mobile version doesn't let me edit; sorry for the double post.

And, truth be told, if I hadn't stopped caring about whether people played Mystcraft I would have stopped long ago.

Sorry that I don't work to your schedule. ;) Really wish I could do this full time, but it just isn't possible.

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

i understand and apologize! but from all the modded community's minecraft is the most aggressive of them all "just read one or two of Reika's Mods" page's and you will hate the world! and you should as a life lesson thank about us players that love your mod! and if we did not we would not waste are time posting and i will try to see if it creates a new file or add to it! when i get time to play! again sorry for the hostile sounding posts!!

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

PS umm what file? lol no really what file do i need to watch is it in the save folder or the config folder or some where other? sorry for stupid question hehe!

XCompWiz commented 9 years ago

You still haven't answered my question. :D

Repeat: Does it recreate the file or does it add to the existing one?

Also, what's the minimum set of mods you can reproduce the issue with?

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

sorry Myst-comunication pun intended lol "Repeat: Does it recreate the file or does it add to the existing one?" are you referring to config\mystcraft\balance.cfg file?

and i do have mutimc i can create a new instance and test by starting of with just your mod and start adding in the others witch are around 300 mod's err lot of work here!

XCompWiz commented 9 years ago

I usually recommend working in halves. Start with all of them, and remove half of the "non-required" mods, meaning the mods that are directly part of the test need to stay (Mystcraft). Every time you remove half you can check to see if the problem persists. If so, remove another half. If not swap the half you kept for the half you dropped and test again. If you can't repeat the issue on either half in a set then the issue comes from multiple mods, and you need some combination from those two halves. This is just binary search.

I mean the baseline data file in the save's data folder. Keybounce should be able to find it, if you can't. :)

keybounce commented 9 years ago

Looks like it's in saves/worldname/data/myst_baseline.dat

keybounce commented 9 years ago

My biggest issue with the "halfsies" is that betwteen some mods requiring other mods, or working with an existing world that gets eaten up when blocks go poof, it's not always easy to tell which mods you want to remove or place in at each test.

Do you know of a testing harness (probably for MMC) that makes the enabling/disabling/tracking less error prone?

XCompWiz commented 9 years ago

I don't, but that would be really useful. Might be possible to poll if anyone would be up to writing such a thing.

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

Well i agree with that i split my pack in half and started test with 152 mods, but then start after start it would say buildcraft missing or ic2 missing lol well im down too 58 mods and im going to reverse this now and start new with only mystcraft and start adding from those 58 wish my luck ppeehhh!!!

ps to answer "Does it recreate the file or does it add to the existing one?" ANSWER: none! ok after profiling completes myst_baseline.dat never changes after at lest according to windows time-stamp it will start profiling after restart, but never complete or update/replace myst_baseline.dat!

continuing testing testing is hard work!!

psps also after quitting after profiling is done and starting game it does not start profiling but if i quit to game menu and start it will start profiling

XCompWiz commented 9 years ago

So what size is the .dat file?

It doesn't reprofile if you shutdown completely but does if you only go to the main menu?

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

yes re-profiles only if restarting from menu and I found the trouble maker :D after testing with mystcraft alone testing PASSED ADDED Forestery Testing PASSED ADDED NEI Testing Failed ok quit and tried again and passed bakesheesh! testing sucks lol ok adding fastcraft and optifine

SecretSnake55 commented 9 years ago

ok I just dont know what it is Adding fastcraft or optifine does it but only after stopping to main menu and re-logging, so here is a F3+C Crash if there is something other that you would like me to try just let me know!!! http://pastebin.com/H2NDWTG5

we have some of the same mods as Secret was listing here and have had to disable mystcraft due to crashing bugs we couldn't pin down.

something on the order ~140+ mods, so doing piecemeal testing would be quite painful.

Binary search is generally the fastest method of testing for interaction issues. If you can't determine the cause I can't fix it. :( Crashing is unrelated to this issue, so if you are experiencing crashing please create a ticket with pastebin links to crash logs. :) I'll be happy to help track it down.

I think the issue here has to do with the file not being saved promptly. Maps and such probably suffer from the same issue, but it's less noticeable. I'll look into fixing this.

This seems to be handled in current version.
