Default to data-driven diffusion map #387

This skeleton change intends to accommodate the data-driven diffusion map, do you have a better idea to nest the simulation/data-driven map neatly and nicely, given the different grid point density?

Coverage increased (+0.07%) to 82.579% when pulling 70eae245d115fe4de29a04edb9cf37911f60a37e on diffusion_longitudinal into 12abb8aa80d1e1bb947885b18e55a9091513afc3 on master.
