[Suggestion] Save the villages! #98

There are creepers in the streets! Would it be possible to get mega torches to spawn naturally in towns? Either in a small structure, or buried under something? Making the town ones drop nothing when broken would probably be best. You could put them in temples, but Random Things sometimes includes a peaceful candle there (plus they're not always present). They could also be hidden at the bottom of a well to make sure all towns have one. Alternatively, if the devs of Waystones or Signposts was interested, mega torches could be buried under the waystone structures or signposts (or possibly have the functionality attached to the other item as long as it's intact).

That's an interesting idea. With 1.14 I revamped the torch range logic with the intention to add different tiers of torches (like the chandelier for example). I'm not sure if we can easily modify village structures to include a torch, it might be more feasible to add our own structure; but I will tinker around a bit.

Adding a torch to literally every village should be a config option though. If I recall correctly, 1.14 has some sort of abandoned village with semi destroyed houses and lots of zombies. Adding a torch there doesn't sound right. Instead we could add an unlit/inactive torch to the village. This would add to the story of the village and the player could use the inactive torch in some sort of recipe to repair it. Lots of stuff to think about, but I like it :)

The biggest issue I have is feature creep. A lot of people install torchmaster solely for the mega torch. Some don't even know about the other items/blocks in the mod (And that's totally fine!!). I really want to add more stuff to the mod, but I also don't want to alienate the players that just want the torch. The easiest option to combat this would be a "Torchmaster Light" mod, which only has the mega torch. But that should be discussed in a different github issue if anyone is interested.

Several years late to the party but personally I think this fits perfectly into the core point of the mod. I use mega torches constantly either around the perimeter of a village I want to "fortify" or on top/under a pillager tower I've "conquered". In my opinion I don't get why those weren't outright built into the game.

I have no idea how much more work it would be but I think being able to stake out a polygon to define the borders of a protected area instead of overlapping spherical ranges would be great for this. It would give an incentive to players to fit their usage into something like building walls and moats around a village.
