Double-line subtitles don't show in AppleTV2 #157

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Encode a movie with one subtitle on two lines
2. Play in the AppleTV2
3. Enable the subtitle

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Some subtitles aren't shown. I can see only the first line when the subtitle
has two lines of text.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
0.9.9 Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.4
Apple TV 2

Please provide any additional information below.

I had the same issue. Solution was to choose a different parameter set on my
tv. Something from Cinema to PC or something like this. Anyway, fontsize is
much to small on Apple TV 2 (but that's not a subler issue).

That's a ATV2 software pb. I've already fill a bugreport, and it's a known
issue, which should be resolved in the next software update.

Sound like an overscan problem, check if your tv has an option to disable it.

Issue 161 has been merged into this issue.

About overscan and other TV parameters, they are not causing a problem (movies
show completely and also menus etc). Most probably it's the ATV issue said by
theketchupman. Let's wait for a sw update.

theketchupman,that is a two points:
1. I have a number of downloaded videos and multilines subs is ok to showing on
ATV2
2. Nobody know than sw.up. for AT2 will came out or will it fix this problem.
Maybe it will be a good idea to research this problem deeper and/or to provide
in subler an option to convert m-lines subs to single-line (which is looking to
be very easy)

Looks like 4.1 sw up fix it.

since 4.1, subtiles are working a little bit better, but i've still pb with
multilines show : only the first one is shown by the ATV.
@motto.uieoa : since multilines is working for you, i'll do a little more
research, and let you know.

nevermind, it was a pb with my files. It's working with subler without any pb.
But, motto can you confirm that ATV2 do not support AC3 track ? I need for some
of my files to convert the AC3 track to AAC (it says that "content can not be
played on this device").

Original comment by theketch...@gmail.com on 23 Nov 2010 at 8:44

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
A have no problem with AC3-only movie. Yes, you do need a AV-receiver to decode
it because ATV2 just pass AC3 (or DTS) to TV/AVR.
ATV2 does not support DCA-only files (or maybe iTunes doesn't - I failed to add
this one to library)

I must be doing something wrong but i cannot get the AppleTV to show multiline
subs. Only the first line is shown.
Any special "trick" needed? I see no difference between AppleTV 4.1 and 4.2.

No any trick needed. Maybe your srt files a badly formated or you have some
encoding issues?

:(
QuickTime X shows both lines of the subs on my Mac. I only cannot see them on
my AppleTV2.
I tried with multiple videos and settings.
Also tried with Handbrake encoded video with subs. Does not matter how i try
it, i only see the first line.
