Benefits:

Better CI/CD integration
Support multiple architectures (I have tested on arm64 and amd64)
Make docker images lightweight
Allow different branches to have different docker registry setups.
And more.

Also, I would suggest moving the source code to src/. So that Docker doesn't need to clear its cache on each build if one changes something unrelated to the build, such as the Makefile. Please tell me what do you think, this change might be a little big for now.

Abandoned, it's a shame that Xilinx doesn't even take the time to review community PRs.
