NOTE: this needs to be consolidated with other changes in the repo.

Changes in the build/ subdir should be disregarded, as that'll get re-generated by the CI/CD system.

Ideally this whole subdir should be removed and the CI/CD should rework how things are done but pushing this burden to maintainers of th repo.
